More Scoot Projects

Hi, I'm back again today to show you some more projects I've made with the Echo Park Scoot Collection. If you missed the last post you can catch up on that right here.

I did lots of stitching on the layouts I made on my Scrapbooking weekend away. On this page I stitched around the pictures printed on the  patterned paper that I had decided to use for my background.

I love the definition it gives to the images!
Almost brings them to life!

I added a length of ribbon, a few stickers including a border sticker and the only other piece of patterned paper that I used was the branding strip for the red banner!

I really got busy with my die-cutter for this double page about a Lego exhibition. I die cut my chevron background and continued the papers over both pages for unity even though the 2 pages are different.

Backing negative shapes with patterned papers is a great way to stretch your stash and use up smaller pieces and you can make a background using a craft knife, scissors or even a manual die cutter depending on the size and shape you want.

I used some of the cut out bits on the other page too. I love these colourful papers which would work equally well on lots of different theme layouts ... they're not just for boys!

Finally I want to show you a card I made using the papers and stickers to make a scene. I took my inspiration for this from Echo Park Designer Jen Gallacher who did something similar recently.

I used pop dots to add dimension on some of the stickers to raise them up!

Even after all of these fun projects, I still have papers and stickers left! I'm going to finish them off by making some more cards for some upcoming birthdays using the digger stickers and some scrunched up grey paper for stones and boulders. Its such a fun collection, it really brought a smile to my face and I hope it does yours too.

Studio Calico Burst Mask - Part 2

Hello! Jennifer here, and I'm back with some more Studio Calico Burst Mask Projects!

If you missed the first part, you can find that here.

For this next project, I decided to try something other than misting. I played with some stamping through the mask instead!

Step 1: Take a 4.5" square piece of white cardstock, and position your burst mask on top. My mask still has ink on it from where I had been trying different stamps out earlier!

Step 2: Stamp all over the mask with a rubber stamp, using a few different colours of ink pad. I used blue, yellow, and pink. The rubber stamp needs to be one with a deep design - the flatter ones won't press down enough between the mask's gaps.

Here's the card with the mask removed.

Step 3: To finish the card off, sew some straight lines in the gaps between the stamped bursts. Add a brad in the centre. Then ink the edges of the white cardstock with pink ink, and mat it onto a piece of 5" square blue cardstock. Mount it onto a 5.5" white square card.

I'll keep this card on standby to send to someone who needs cheering up with a burst of colour!

Next, I wanted to try something a bit different so I used the burst mask to make my own unique t-shirt.

It was great fun and I love the final effect! I'm going to show you how it's done - but first of all I must point out that you can't use regular scrapbooking mists on a t-shirt that you'll want to wash. They'd wash right out! You need to get some fabric spray paint and follow manufacturers instructions for drying / setting the paint.

Step 1: Protect your work surface (and it's a good idea to wear your old clothes!!) and put newspaper or similar inside your t-shirt so the paint doesn't bleed through. Then place your mask on the t shirt where you want it to go.

Step 2: Spray all over your mask going over the edges a little, with yellow fabric spray paint.

Step 3: Spray the centre of your mask with orange fabric spray paint.

Step 4: Take the lid off your orange fabric spray paint and tap it above the t-shirt so you get little drops all over it.

Step 5: Take the mask off. Just after this photo I also sprayed a couple of times with the yellow fabric spray paint, from high above, so the t-shirt wasn't quite so stark white where the mask had been.

Step 6: Leave the t-shirt to dry, or follow the fabric paint instructions for how to dry / set the paint. Sew on a few scattered orange and yellow buttons, and your new t shirt is ready to wear!

My Mum kindly modelled it for me!!

Thanks so much for reading my Studio Calico Burst Mask projects - let us know what you think about them and whether they've inspired you to make something!

Carta Bella Traditions Cards - By Lisa- Jane

Hi Everyone .... Lisa-Jane here today!

I really enjoyed using the Carta Bella Traditions collection kit.  True to their word, the quality of the papers is amazing.  Carta Bella papers have a lovely subtle texture and are slightly thicker than normal patterned papers.  This collection is ideal if you are after something general to use for everyday, Christmas and Autumn rather than buying a specific themed collection. At first sight it might seem rather vintage but the mix of designs and gorgeous, rich colours enables you to get quite a different feel just by being selective with the patterns.

I had a couple of "Thank You" cards to make and I used this home decor project as inspiration for my butterfly card.  I inked the edges on this one with Rusty Hinge distress ink to echo the Autumnal feel.

For my Dad's birthday card, I made a more traditional card in the true feel of the collection.  I love the blue patterned paper - it is so hard to find "proper" blue scrapbook papers. The vintage car image is stamped and embossed and I some script ribbon finishes it off, complimenting the more traditional style.

There are some wonderful stickers on the sheet that comes in the collection pack and I loved this peacock sticker but I knew it wouldn't work on a scrapbook page for me.  It was the perfect focal point for this card which has a completely different colour-way than the previous two cards.  I used a border punch and some ribbon for texture and layered up the stickers on 3D foam dots. I inked the edges of the paper with Faded Jeans distress ink

I'll be back soon to show you some scrapbook layouts with the same collection kit!

Wonderland Cards - By Jenny

Hi Everyone, Jenny here today!

This month Sarah gave me Studio Calico Wonderland to work with, I love the range of colours in this pad - you have your traditional reds and greens but also some lovely blues, creams and browns. There is a good mix of Winter/Christmas patterns and also more general patterns. I made a few different things to to try and show you how versatile these gorgeous papers are!

First up a nice simple card using Kraft card to mat the patterned paper onto and some twine wrapped around the paper which gives the card a nice rustic look. I have used glossy accents to highlight some of the pattern on the paper and stamped a sentiment in Rich Cocoa Memento ink.

The large snowflake has been cut from a piece of patterned paper and then covered in glamour dust and the smaller one is cut from white card, a clear button tied with some blue twine finishes the snowflake off.

Another fairly simple card - this time using one of the green papers from the Wonderland pad which is matted onto some dark green cardstock and then onto a card blank. I stamped the sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and then drew the square around the card with a fineliner pen. The snowman is a diecut which has been embossed and coloured with promarkers.

I'll be back soon to show you a gift bag and a tealight holder - both would make great Christmas gifts!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Colouring with Distress Inks

It's no secret that I love distress inks!
When I first met Jenny a while back now, she had just a couple of distress ink pads and confided in me that she wasn't really sure what to do with them. If you have seen Jenny's demos or taken one of her classes at our Open Days or if you follow her wonderful blog, you will know what a "whizz" she is colouring with promarkers!

So, when Jenny put together this colouring tutorial I was very happy! Although I think Jenny will always prefer her promarkers it is obvious those distress ink pads are slowly taking over her craft desk!! lol!!

Over to Jenny ...

"A few months ago I only had 2 distress inks pads, today I have a collection of 13!! It seems they have become a staple item to my crafting. I know I'm a little behind the times but they frightened me at first. I saw all the amazing results other people got with them and thought there was no way I could do the same but slowly I have gained more confidence with them and now use them on most of my cards"

For this card, I stamped the image in Memento Rich Cocoa onto some Kraft card.

I used a water brush and a piece of laminated card, or you can use a craft sheet. I pressed the ink pad onto the laminated card, making a "splodge" of colour and then used my water brush to put some water onto the ink and started to colour. I've found it best to start off pale as you can always add more colour. Remember, the more water the paler the colour. For this image I used the following distress ink colours Iced Spruce, Peeled Paint, Wild Honey, Weathered Wood, Brushed Corduroy & Festive Berries

Here's the finished card!

I have inked the edges of the Kraft using the blending tool with Brushed Corduroy ink pad (it doesn't look so dark in real life) and then mounted it onto some dark brown card, stamped Happy Birthday in memento ink and stapled a piece of jute across the card.

Have you tried colouring with distress inks?

Thanks for stopping by today!

Little Bo Peep ... A mini book and more!!

Hello Everyone!!
When the new collection from Crate Paper, Little Bo Peep landed here at S J Crafts, I just knew DT Team member, Jennifer would create something beautiful with it, so I sent her a parcel of goodies. I wasn't wrong!!

Over to Jennifer .....

Ooh, how pretty and lovely is the Little Bo Peep collection from Crate Paper?! When I opened the parcel containing it I just had to sit and stroke the papers, and show all the lovely embellies off to my friends, before I could start to use it! But once I started creating with it, I just couldn't stop...

First up is a mini book I made using the Tag Cuts sheet of paper. It's all about my daughter in the months before she finished nursery (pre-school), to capture some cute 'little girl' moments before she grows up even more! I'm going to give this as a gift to my Mother-In-Law, her Nanny:

I cut out the tags I liked, stitched a variety of lace to the bottom edges, chose small square photos, and embellished with Border StickersPhrase StickersBrads, and gems / pearls.

There are two tags without photos, on at the front and one at the back of the mini book. All of the tags have journaling on the back, some stories I might not have mentioned to my Mother-In-Law, and some thoughts about my daughter getting so grown up:

I finished it off by joining them all together with a book ring and adding some strips of ribbon to the ring to soften it. I hope my Mother In Law likes the book!

I also dug out some photos of my daughter when she was small, about 5 months old, that I've been meaning to scrapbook for ages, to create this page:

I cut half an inch at the top of a sheet of Charlotte paper, so that I could stick lots of small tags from the Tag Cuts sheet along the top, with their edges sticking over to create a shaped edge, and it wouldn't make the page larger than 12x12. Border Stickers, and some dresses on a washing line cut from the Accent Cuts sheet, were layered at the base of the tags.

The rest of the page is not too detailed. I added white dots using Mister Huey White Mist, by undoing the mist top, shaking of the excess into the bottle, and then tapping the base of the mist dropper/tube onto my page. To make larger dots I tapped a few times. I like how it looks to accent my usual scattered gems and pearls!

Isn't she cute as a button?!

I have one more project to show you today. Here's a sweet 'Congratulations' card for a new baby girl:

The image from the Accents Sheet is so adorable, and I love the colours in the floral Eleanorpaper. This card really makes me think of happy days from my childhood!

If you haven't bought any of the Little Bo Peep collection yet, then check it out here!! Even if you don't have any little girl photos to use or to give cards too, then you could use the lovely papers and border stickers for some gorgeous summertime projects!  x

Easel Cards ~ as seen at the Demo!

I hope everyone who came along to the Open Day last Saturday enjoyed themselves. Jenny's Easel Card Demonstration was very popular and I think all the ladies watching picked up a few new tips, techniques or ideas to go home and try.

As promised here are the cards Jenny made ....

This super cute easel card is the Christmas Cat's whiskers Stamp Set

Jenny used the Christmas Bears clear stamp set and MME Breaking Free paper to create this twisted easel card.

A close up of the dimensional die cut & punched snowflakes

I think this one is probably my favourite ~ the image is from the Elfs 1 stamp (not yet on the website but will be very soon) and the paper is Fancy Pants Designs Little Sprout (in the sale!!)

The last card is the other image from the Christmas Cats stamps. These stamps really are such good value for money at £5.95!!

The other main supplies for all cards are nestabilities, promarkers and stickles.

To see more of these cards and also Jenny's tutorial for full instructions on how to make easel cards pop over to her blog.

Our next Open Day is on Saturday 29th October, full details can be found here, a date for your diary!!

Butterfly Cards & Clearance 12" x 12" Papers

I have been busy preparing for the demonstration for this Saturday's Open day and I have just realised that I didn't share the cards from the last Open Day back in July!

These two were my favourites as they are so quick and easy to make!

I used white square card blanks, trimmed a sheet of paper from the Abrianna Pad  to size. I love the K & Co Mat pads because they are double sided and at 4.75" X 6.75" the papers are just right for square cards without too much trimming. I just needed to cut 2" off the top and used this strip to punch the butterflies from using the Martha Stewart Butterfly Punch and adhered them with a dot of glue down the centre leaving their wings free. I love how the reverse side of the paper co ordinates beautifully with the background. A gemstone and stickles on each butterfly to finish. Easy!!

The 2nd card was the same but I used the crystal stickles to create a flight trail, stamped a greeting and added 3 gems in the corner. Paper is also from the Abrianna Pad.

I have sorted through the 12" x 12" Papers and added lots to the Clearance Sale at just 25p each. These include the K & Co Poppyseed Collection and Fancy Pants Little Sprout and Dancing Girl Collections.

More papers will be added over the next few days.

The giveaway that I have been meaning to do for ages should be up tomorrow!

MME Lime Twist Cards

Yesterday I had a little play with one of the gorgeous MME LimeTwist 6" X 6" Paper Pads and made a couple of cards.

This first one is very simple but sometimes I like the "less is more" look!!  The background paper is from the Lime Twist Life of the party pad and some Bazzill kraft cardstock (I use kraft loads and I'm almost completely out of it so must remember to get some more!). I have inked the kraft with distress ink. The cute butterflys are punched with my Martha Stewart Punch and attached with a spot of Glossy Accents so that their wings are left free and a stamped greeting, Craftwork Cards candi (which I'm hoping to stock in the shop soon) and gems to finish.

The second card is pink bazzill for the background, to which I've mounted a piece of green spotty paper to the top half and flower paper to the lower half (both from the Lime Twist Life of the party pad ) with all the corners rounded and the edges inked with distress ink. I cut a strip of brown Lime Twist paper (which is actually the reverse side of the flowery paper!) and punched the edge with my Fiskars border punch and added it across the join. I tied a piece of grosgrain ribbon before attaching the whole piece to a white scalloped card blank and embellishing with a chipboard flower and finishing with craftwork cards candi and a greeting attached with 3d foam tape.

These 6" x 6" pads are gorgeous and perfect for making cards. You get 24 sheets of double sided papers in each pad ... 12 designs .... 2 sheets of each and the papers are good cardstock quality!

Right, I'm off to load some wooden stamps onto the Clearance section of the website!!

Have a Great Day!
